Milan Cookies

The July Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Nicole at Sweet Tooth. She chose Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Cookies and Milan Cookies from pastry chef Gale Gand of Food Network.

To be perfectly honest, this month's daring bakers challenge wasn't really a success for me. I didn't love the batter recipe for the cookies - they turned out kind of elastic-y, and something about the whole texture was just off. It's always a sad moment when you take the time to get your ingredients, pipe batter, sandwich cookies and the end result doesn't seem to add up to the effort. The only remedy is to get in the kitchen again as soon as possible and bake again to start fresh!

Aww, I was going to make these but now I'm not so sure. Any tips? They look perfect (as always!)

I know what you mean about the batter. I had some problems with it as well.

But I must say your cookies look so perfect :)

I'm sorry to hear that, Jen, but may I say your cookies look beautiful?

Sorry to hear it didn't go as planned! I think this challenge was a little bit more complicated in ways that you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the recipe! They still look great though!

If it is at all helpful, yours are the best looking that I've seen for this challenge. It a pain to do the work and have less than satisfactory results. I just crumbled an entire loaf of bread to feed the ducks. It looked like a great recipe and came from a reputable miller, but it was pretty bad. This is not intended to rub salt in open wounds, but Pepperridge Farms makes a really passable Milan.

I'm sorry the challenge wasn't so fun -- but your cookies do look beautiful!

Well, the picture is so beautiful, at least I can imagine that they taste as good as they look.

Those look like my favorite Pepperidge Farm cookies, only about 1 million times better. Love the photo!

My first batch of cookies was oddly chewy. I found I had to over bake them a bit to get the crisp. They look really pretty!

Out of all the cookies they have these are my favorite. You did a wonderful job!!!

Oh, I hate that! They look good though.

I wasn't really inspired by either recipe so I kind of cheated on this challenge and turned the mallow cookies into mallow cupcakes.

Oh, sorry they didn't turn out so well for you Jen! And I agree ... it's never fun when you go to all the trouble. Thankfully there's always another recipe on the horizon to be tried!

Sorry you weren't a fan, but I guess everybody's got their recipe duds :/ And it's just one more excuse to bake some more!
